Sara Sherriff - Wildwood

“Hattie and Mabel - Hattie is well organised and extremely efficient. She’s […] also creative and does the most beautiful calligraphy. Mabel couldn’t be more different. She’s a bit clumsy and often trips over her rather large feet […] Despite their differences, Hattie and Mabel are inseparable.”

We always like to see what people make with our fabrics, and when Sara Sherriff’s dolls appeared on our feed they really charmed us. Handmade in Norfolk each doll has their own story and personality. Sarah uses vintage fabrics, interesting textures and muted colours to create really sophisticated characters, using the cloth to help build the narrative.

“Old linen will often split while I am using it and then I darn the holes – the mending reminds me of little scars, like those from a life that has been well-lived. My love of the beauty of imperfection seems to be getting stronger as I get older.”

The fabrics are coloured with natural dye and the dolls are stuffed with wool and sewn with silk and metallic threads.
