Current vacancy - Online & Studio Assistant

Cloth House, 130 Royal College Street, Camden, London, NW1 0TA

A position is now available at our Camden studio. Cloth House is a family business, and we’re excited to welcome someone into our small team, to work closely with us across a variety of roles. The studio is a busy place, as well as being a shop, the building is our warehouse and it’s where we fulfil our online orders. We are looking for someone to help with the smooth running of the studio.

This will be a varied role in a busy environment, your main daily duties will be online order fulfilment, stock checks and replenishment, and helping to run the shop on a day-to-day basis, whether providing excellent customer service, answering the phone or handling warehouse deliveries. What we look for most in a candidate is motivation and an attention to detail.

Although experience and a knowledge of fabric is not necessary, an understanding of good customer service and a willingness to be helpful and thorough in your job is essential. There will also be some computer-based work using our shipping programme and training will be given.

This position has the potential to develop, depending on the skills and ingenuity shown, and once the candidate is trained there will be an opportunity for flexible working hours.

Please note: This will be a manual job with regular heavy lifting and climbing ladders. The shop is spread over 4 floors and is a busy environment, so you will be actively on your feet for most of the day. We also have a resident shop dog, an American Bully called Apollo.

Main Duties

Fulfilling online orders – you will be trained in the procedure of cutting fabric, wrapping and packing orders, using an order fulfilment programme, and liaising with couriers. Attention to detail is a must.

Stock check – reporting to the website manager in order to complete stock checks, stock replenishment and report any problems. Once trained you will be expected to have a good knowledge of the stock we hold and to be pro-active in helping to manage this stock and to foresee what might sell out. You will be trained how to input stock levels into the back end of the website.

Customer service – Camden is a busy shop, and we juggle fulfilling online orders along with serving customers, answering calls and emails and receiving deliveries. Maintaining a good level of customer service is very important while being careful to manage your tasks and minimise mistakes.

Housekeeping - You will be working closely with the website manager to organise and maintain the online stock, to keep fabric tidy, clearly labelled, and to maintain an organised sample room.

Skills & Experience

+ Someone who is practical and conscientious. In a small team it is important to communicate well, be thoughtful and be pro-active.

+ Comfortable lifting and carrying rolls of fabric, using a ladder and being on your feet all day. This is a physical job, and the Camden studio is split over 4 floors so you will be up and down stairs a lot.

+ Computer literate. We will train you in using our order fulfilment programmes but you must be comfortable using a computer.

+ Be able to follow our procedures but use your initiative when required.

+ Have good awareness and organisational skills.  It’s important to prioritise tasks in order to help support other members of the team when things get busy.

+ Be reliable, friendly and thoughtful.

+ A background in textiles, retail or e-commerce fulfilment is advantageous but not strictly required. Your work experience should show us that you can work in a busy environment, multitask and complete your duties to a high standard.

+ Photography skills and experience using Photoshop would be a bonus.

Job Spec.

32 hours a week, permanent.

To start, the working week will be 9.30 – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday. Once trained there is scope for more flexible hours.

There is no set deadline for applying to this role. We will wait until we find the right person to join our team.

If you are interested in working with us, please send a CV with a short cover letter outlining why you would be suitable to online@clothhouse.com, we look forward to hearing from you.
